Mamamia Steak at BluCabana

image

Oh mamamia! Steak!!! Its been a while since I had a goooood steak. But my good friend Mr Niyi (Animation enthusiast, Founder and C.E.O of Anthill Studios) came to the rescue. The scene of the gastronomic experience is Blucabana at Mabushi District, Abuja. Oh boy, lets start with the ambiance..superb. I felt like I had just arrived some vacation heaven in the middle of nowhere.

Beautiful architecture and lighting. We were greeted by a polite lady at the reception then escorted to our table. Immediately we were offered the menu to make our order, which we did and then waited…waited……and waited some more. At this point we were wondering what went wrong after such a great reception….could it be that all these expatriates are getting more attention than we are because they are…..well, “expatriates”? Hmm…just then my friend went on to tell me about a restaurant in Lagos called Double Four at The Palms, Lekki. that serves only “expatriates” and if you missed road and strolled into that place, be sure that you would get snubbed. Well, that’s just wrong!

Mr Niyi..about to call the Chief Chef to ask why we are still waiting for our order to be taken

We had to ask if they served any complimentary starter to make up for the time we’ve spent waiting for our order to be taken…before we were served sliced carrots doused in lemon juice and peanuts…weird combo if you ask me…

I believe the name of this drink is African Dance..or Sunshine lol…its blended pineapple juice with ginger or so

Finally! our food arrives…. His first, Seafood Soup with a drink called African Dance to wash it down. I thought the soup portion was alot especially compared to the meager bread slices that came with it. It has shrimps and squid rings with grated carrot and cabbage. It tasted good though. But i thought they should be more seafood than grated veges.

Mine was obviously the Tenderloin Steak with mashed potatoes. It came with a mushroom gravy and a portion of mix vegetables. To wash it down, I ordered their trademark cocktail called Bulcabana.

My Verdict

True to its name, the steak was tender indeed. Grilled to a perfect well-done steak, well spiced and juicy! The mashed potatoes was equally delicious, I could taste butter and milk in it. The drink was good too. A standard cocktail with the right amount of alcohol.
I really love the ambiance, the main attraction is the swimming pool which was lighted with a cool blue light that gives the place a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant is spread across the ground floor, customers can eat by the pool side and in doors. While upstairs, a standard gym is located. To use the facilities, such as the gym, the pool, and the children's playground, one has to be a registered member.

To me, this place is the perfect place to take a break and relax from the hustle and bustle of the city at least every weekend. A temporary substitute,  to curb the urge for a vacation overseas.

  1. This looks nice and classy. Wouldn’t mind trying their steak. I think the closet i’ve ever come to eating steak is our local dry roast barbecue a.k.a Suya. I guess I could someday find my way to BluCabana for this wonderful treat.

    1. Thanks MaiSuya, I can tell from your name that you are pro suya eater lol, Steak is thicker in mass and not as peppery as Suya.
